Lincoln Saltdogs News Release
KANSAS CITY, KS - It took until the bottom of the fifth inning for a team to score but then the floodgates opened for the Kansas City T-Bones as they beat the Lincoln Saltdogs 7-0 on Tuesday night.
Lincoln's Mike Tamburino and KC's Scott Carroll entered the game a combined 6-0 with both pitchers owning an ERA under 3.00. Tamburino suffered his first loss of the season after surrendering his first homer of the season.
The Saltdogs' right-hander tossed four scoreless inning but ran into trouble with two outs in the fifth. Dylan Tice and Todd Cunningham got two singles to continue the inning and bring Nick Torres to the plate. Torres flew an opposite field home run just over the fence to make it 3-0.
Kansas City blew it open in the seventh. Newcomer Brad Thoutt gave up base hits to Tice and Cunningham to start his professional debut. Then, Torres pounded a triple to deep right-center field to empty the bases. Torres scored on one of three wild pitches in the inning. Taylor Featherston put the icing on the cake with a solo home run to make it 7-0.
The Saltdogs had their best chance to score in the fourth inning. Chase Simpson recorded an opposite field base hit and was replaced by Brandon Jacobs on a fielder's choice. Next, Randolph Oduber smoked a double to put runners at second and third base with two outs. Carroll struck out Nathaniel Maggio to end the inning.
Carroll retired the final seven batters he faced. Reliever Hunter Adkins picked up where Carroll left off, getting the next five batters out before allowing hits to Christian Ibarra and Cesar Valera. Adkins earned a three-inning save.
It was the third time the Saltdogs have been shutout this season. The loss broke their three-game winning streak.
The Saltdogs look to regroup on Wednesday. First pitch against the T-Bones is at 7:05 PM with coverage beginning at 6:35 PM on ESPN 101.5 FM 1480 AM and http://www.espn1480.com/lincoln-saltdogs-baseball/.
