Kansas City Monarchs News Release
GARY, IN - In what looked bleak and on the road to a sweep for the Gary SouthShore RailCats (18-22) turned into a 4-2 win for the Kansas City T-Bones (21-20).
The RailCats started a true rookie, Seth Hougesen (0-0), that went a total of four innings in his first professional start. In Hougesen's outing he allowed only one hit with 2 walks and a strikeout to conclude his four innings of work. Robbie Coursel took over in the fifth inning and had similar success, only giving up one run on three hits. However, the tables turned quickly once Jack Alkire came in the middle of the 7th inning to face Ramsey Romano.
Tommy Collier started for the T-Bones and got his fourth quality start of the season throwing six total innings, one earned run, and four strikeouts. The T-Bones went through five total pitchers to conclude the series. Besides Collier, Magliaro and Diaz were the only other pitchers that went a full inning. Diaz earned his third save of the season.
Romano started the scoring for the T-Bones, erasing a 1-0 deficit courtesy of a Colin Willis' RBI single in the first inning. Romano reached first on a bang-bang play on a ground ball to shortstop Marcus Mooney, scoring Shawn O'Malley who singled to start off the 7th inning. Dylan Tice would keep the ball rolling by driving in Ramsey Romano with an RBI single to make it a 2-1 ball game. Then the hot Daniel Nava, who had a two-game homerun streak entering the game, hit a two-run single to score both Danny Mars and Dylan Tice.
The T-Bones have a day off tomorrow to start the month of July before hosting the 4th place Sioux Falls Canaries, who are currently 20-21 and playing the T-Bones for the first time this season. Christian Binford is the probable starting pitcher for game one of the homestand, currently sporting a record of 1-0 and an ERA of 3.14 of 3 appearances.
The upcoming homestand will feature two straight days of post-game fireworks for the 3rd and 4th of July in honor of Independence Day at T-Bones Stadium.
