Cleburne Railroaders News Release
GRAND PRAIRIE, Tex. - The Cleburne Railroaders drew a season-high 11 walks and scored a season-high eight runs in the seventh inning to breeze past the Texas AirHogs 12-6 on Sunday afternoon at AirHogs Stadium. With the win, Cleburne extended their winning streak to six, one shy of the franchise record.
All nine Cleburne hitters walked and scored a run, taking advantage of wildness from Texas starter Travis Ballew (1-5) to grab a 2-0 lead. John Nester walked and came in to score on an RBI single from Nick Rotola in the top of the second. A Zach Nehrir RBI single in the third doubled the lead for Cleburne (22-20).
Texas (8-32) pulled a run back in the fourth on a two-out RBI single from Luo Jinjun, trimming the lead to 2-1 against Cleburne starter Stephen Johnson (2-0).
The Railroaders pushed the lead back to two with a Nehrir run-scoring double in the fifth, and then made it 4-1 on a fielder's choice grounder from K.C. Huth.
Things got interesting in the bottom of the sixth, when the AirHogs scored a run on Javion Randle's RBI single and loaded the bases with two outs. Daniel Hurtado got Li Ning on a grounder to second to end the threat, and Cleburne put the game away in the next half inning. The first ten hitters that came to the plate reached base, including six walks and two hit by pitches. Rotola had a two-run single in the frame to highlight the scoring, while five other Railroaders drove home single runs in the frame.
Texas scored five runs over the final four innings against the Cleburne bullpen, though four of the five were unearned.
The Railroaders and AirHogs conclude their series on Monday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM, with left-hander Michael Gunn (3-0, 3.48) getting the ball for Cleburne. Texas will counter with righty Zech Lemond (0-5, 6.09).
