Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release
FARGO, N.D. - T.J. Bennett knocked in four runs on a muggy Sunday afternoon at Newman Outdoor Field as the RedHawks handed the St. Paul Saints their second series loss of the season with an 8-6 victory in front 2,803 fans. Fargo-Moorhead now sits only a half-game behind the Saints for the North Division lead.
St. Paul's Max Murphy started the game off with a single and came around to score, giving the Saints an early lead before the RedHawks answered in the bottom half of the inning with an RBI groundout from Chris Jacobs that scored Brennan Metzger.
Michael Tamburino stayed at 3-4 on the year despite only giving up three runs over five innings in his eighth start of the season for the RedHawks. St. Paul's Ryan Zimmerman pitched 5.2 innings and gave up three runs and also remained at 1-1 for the year, as neither pitcher was a factor in the decision.
The Saints scored two runs in the fourth to retake the lead, and one more in the fifth to extend their lead to three. The RedHawks cut the deficit to two in the bottom of the fifth on another Chris Jacobs RBI single. A bases-loaded walk to Tim Colwell in the sixth brought F-M back within one before a three-run home run from T.J. Bennett in the seventh inning gave the RedHawks their first lead of the game and would go on to score four runs in the bottom of the seventh.
The Saints cut their deficit to a single run with two runs in the top of the eighth, but T.J. Bennett would go on to give the RedHawks the insurance run in the bottom of the eighth and Geoff Broussard came in the top of ninth to close out the game and secure the series victory for the RedHawks.
Joe Fillomeno picks up his third win of the season (3-0) for the RedHawks after pitching two innings and giving up two hits. Landon Beck (3-2) gets the loss for Saints after pitching just one inning and giving up four runs on four hits.
The RedHawks (27-15) will be on the road for three games against Winnipeg (24-16), who currently sit third in the North Division. First pitch for the Monday opener is scheduled for 4:05 p.m.
