
T-Birds Topple Tips in ShoWare Opener

Kent, January 3, 2008 - The Seattle Thunderbirds defeated the Everett Silvertips 4-3 Saturday night in front of a capacity crowd of 6,125 in their first game at ShoWare Center.
ShoWare Center in Kent is the T-Birds new home. They play the Kamloops Blazers on Sunday at 5:05 p.m. in the second game in their new home.
Everett outshot Seattle 12-8 in a scoreless first period. T-Birds center Brenden Silvester scored the first goal in ShoWare Center when he put back a rebound at 7:23 of the second period. Sena Acolatse and Luke Lockhart had the assists on Silvester's fifth goal of the year.
Jeremy Boyer scored a power-play goal at 9:33 of the second to put the T-Birds in front 2-0. Boyer beat Everett goalie Thomas Heemskerk from the high slot with a wrist shot. Greg Scott and Prab Rai had the assists on the goal.
Seattle (16-20-1-2) outshot Everett 17-8 in the second period and led 25-20 in total shots after two periods.
The T-Birds extended the lead to 3-0 at 4:26 of the third period when Greg Scott scored a power-play goal. Scott put a slap shot on goal from the right point that hit Heemskerek left shoulder and then went into the net. Rai and Boyer had the assists.
Sena Acolatse added a fourth Seattle goal less than a minute after the third goal. Acolatse pounded in a rebound at 5:19 of the period with assists going to Devon LeBlanc and Lockhart.
The Silvertips scored three goals in the last five minutes of the third to make the game close. Dale Hunt scored a power-play goal at 15:37 and Shane Harper added two goals, a power-play goal at 17:56 and a pulled goalie goal at 19:24.
Both teams had 11 shots on goal in the third period and the T-Birds finished with a 36-31 advantage in total shots.
Seattle goalie Jacob DeSerres made 28 saves on 31 shots and his record is now 6-11-0-0.
Heemskerk stopped 32 of 36 shots and his record is 7-7-2-2.
