Vancouver Giants News Release
Vancouver BC - The Vancouver Giants ran into a hardworking Kamloops Blazers team and came out on the wrong end of a 2-1 score at the Pacific Coliseum. Kamloops becomes the first team to hand the Giants a regulation defeat at the Pacific Coliseum this season and of the six losses that the Giants have suffered this season, (3 regulation and three shootout), the Blazers have handed the Giants two of those losses.
Kamloops opened the scoring in the first period, as Alex Rodgers was able to tip home a pass past Giants goalie Tyson Sexsmith. The lead could have been more, but Sexsmith closed the door as the Blazers hammered 17 shots on goal in the first and led 1-0.
The Giants picked up a quick goal early in the second period as Mikhail Fisenko scored, redirecting a Brent Regner pass past Blazers net minder Jon Groenheyde. The Giants would outshoot the Blazers 14-2, but could only score the one goal as the score was 1-1 after forty minutes.
Early in period three, Tyler Shattock would restore the Blazers lead, roofing a rebound past Sexsmith on a Blazer power play. The Giants would pick up the pace and pressure the Blazers, but Kamloops played a solid third period to wrap up the win.
Vancouver falls to 32-3-0-3 with the defeat, their first since Novermber 29th. The Giants now embark on a seven game road trip, their longest of the season. Vancouver will take on the Central Division, with their first stop being Cranbrook and the Kootenay Ice next Friday night. Game time will be at 6 pm, with the SAVE ON FOODS pre game show at 5:30 on AM 650. Dave Sheldon will bring you all the action alongside Giants scout Dennis McKinnon.
