T-Birds Split With Wizards

Rio Rancho, NM - The Dakota Wizards (16-27) used a big first quarter to jump out to an early lead on the New Mexico Thunderbirds (16-26) and eventually win by a score of 122-97

The Wizards jumped out to a quick start on the Thunderbirds going up by a score of 17-9 to start the first quarter. After the Thunderbirds closed to within six points, the Wizards went on a 10-0 run to open up a 16-point lead. They would lead 39-24 after one quarter.

In the second quarter, Dar Tucker hit a 3-pointer to cut the Wizards lead to 11 with 1:25 remaining. Jamaine Peterson had 11 in the first half for the Thunderbirds, but Dakota led 60-49 at the half. Javaris Crittenton led all scorers with 13 at the break.

With the Thunderbirds still trailing by 11 in the third quarter, the Wizards went on a 23-7 run to open up a 93-66 lead and take control of the game for good. They would lead 95-67 after three quarters and go on to win by 25 points.

Crittenton led all scorers with 29 points in the game for the Wizards and Anthony Goods added 20 points.

The T-Birds had six players score in double figures led by Peterson who finished the game with 18 points off the bench. J.R. Giddens added 12 points.

The Thunderbirds will continue their six game homestand next weekend when they take on the Tulsa 66ers on Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
