T-Birds Run Away From Wizards

Rio Rancho, NM - The New Mexico Thunderbirds (16-25) used a season high 133 points to stop a three-game losing streak and beat the Dakota Wizards (15-27), 133-111.

In the first quarter the Dakota Wizards jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead. The T-Birds would answer with a 25-9 run to take a 25-16 lead. After one quarter New Mexico would hold a 35-28 lead.

The Thunderbirds put up 32 points in the second quarter to extend their lead to nine points at the half, 67-58. The 67 points for the T-Birds were a season high in the first half.

In the third quarter, the T-Birds offense continued to shine. They scored 40 points in the second quarter and had seven players in double figures led by Abdulai Jalloh who had 23 points after three quarters and the T-Birds led 107-87.

In addition to Jalloh, who finished with 32, J.R. Giddens scored 19 points and Shane Edwards added 18 points of his own.

Chris Ayer ended up with a game high 36 points for the Dakota Wizards.

Tomorrow the T-Birds and Wizards will go at it again on Hispanic Heritage Night, presented by Univision and Premier Distributing Company. The T-Birds will be donating a portion of every ticket purchased to the Hispanic Scholarship Fund. The night will include a postgame concert featuring the National Institute of Flamenco, Kymberlee Ann Lopez and local sister singing act, SORELA. All fans will also have the opportunity to win Lakers tickets, a Taos Ski Valley Vacation, an Angel Fire Deluxe Ski Vacation and a VIP Package to the Ty Murray Invitational.
