Legends Fall Despite Big Night From Alexander

Frisco, TX - The Austin Toros avoided a two-game sweep at the hands of the Texas Legends on Saturday night, defeating them 114-99 at HP Court inside Dr Pepper Arena.

Austin got out to a quick start and led by as many as seven point in the first quarter, but Texas ended the period strong and used a Booker Woodfox three-pointer with time winding down to take a 26-24 lead.

A 9-0 run at the beginning of the second quarter gave the Legends a six-point lead. Austin responded with a 19-6 run of their own later in the period to take a 47-41 lead. Texas though scored the final four points of the half to go into the break trailing Austin 51-47.

Joe Alexander had a strong first half with 15 points, while Carldell Johnson dropped in 14 first-half points for the Toros.

The teams played evenly through the third and went into the crucial fourth quarter with the Toros on top 75-69.

Despite crawling within five points in the fourth, the Toros used strong defense down the stretch to preserve the victory.

Alexander came two points shy of his season high with 32 points, as Justin Dentmon added 19.

Johnson led the way for Austin with 26 points in the Toros win.

The loss dropped the Legends to 19-24 on the season, while the Toros improved to 18-23.

Texas will hit the road and take on the Maine Red Claws on Friday night at 6:00 PM.
