
T-Birds Sign Sahvan Khaira

KENT, June 23, 2014 - Seattle Thunderbirds general manager Russ Farwell today announced defenseman Sahvan Khaira has signed a WHL Standard Player Agreement with the team.
"I am very excited and this is the biggest thing in my hockey career," said Khaira. "I was at Game 1 of the playoffs against Everett and I loved the atmosphere and the crowd was really into it. It felt like I belonged. I am looking forward to doing whatever I can to help the team this coming season."
"We are excited to add Sahvan to our team for next year," said Farwell. "He has huge potential because of his combination of skill and great size and he is excited to get started on the next step in his career. We are looking forward to watching him develop with our team."
Khaira played for the Okanagan Hockey Academy last season. He had two
goals and 20 assists for 22 points in 28 games with 44 penalty minutes.
Khaira is right handed defenseman who is 6'1 and 211 pounds. He was selected by the T-Birds in the ninth round, 181st overall, in the 2013 Bantam Draft.
Jujhar Khaira, Sahvan's older brother, played for the Everett Silvertips last season. Jujhar was drafted by the Edmonton Oilers in the third round, 61st overall, in the 2012 NHL Draft.
The T-Birds home opener is Saturday, September 20, against the Everett Silvertips at 7:05pm at ShoWare Center. The T-Birds will release the full 2014-15 regular season schedule on Wednesday, June 25.
