Brandon Wheat Kings News Release

CALGARY, Alta. - Hockey Canada, in partnership with the Canadian Hockey League, has announced the roster of 41 players that have been invited to Canada's National Junior Team Summer development camp.

Among the players invited to the camp, which is scheduled for August 3-8th in Brossard, Montreal and Sherbrooke, Quebec is Brandon Wheat Kings center Jayce Hawryluk.

Canada's roster, comprised of four goaltenders, 12 defencemen and 25 forwards, was selected by Ryan Jankowski, head scout of the men's Program of Excellence for Hockey Canada, along with Hockey Canada vice-president of hockey operations Scott Salmond and the Program of Excellence management group including Sean Burke and Bruce Hamilton.

Jankowski will continue to monitor these players and other potential candidates during the first few months of the 2014-15 season and at the CHL Subway Super Series to determine who will be invited to Canada's National Junior Team selection camp in December. In total, 22 players will be selected to represent Canada at the 2015 IIHF World Junior Championship, Dec. 26, 2014 to Jan. 5, 2014 in Montreal, Que. and Toronto, Ont.

"I would like to congratulate the players selected today to attend the development camp," said Jankowski. "This is a first step towards being chosen to represent Canada at the world juniors, but these 41 players have the first opportunity to show the coaching staff how they can help Canada succeed in Toronto and Montreal at Christmas-time."

A former second round bantam draft choice of the Wheat Kings, Hawryluk is coming off a stellar season that saw the Roblin product lead the WHL club in scoring with 24 goals and 64 points in 59 games. He then added five goals and twelve points in eight playoff games.

In two seasons with Brandon, the 5'10" 190 lb. center, who is expected to be chosen in this weekend's National Hockey League Entry Draft in Philadelphia has scored 42 goals and 107 points in 120 regular season games.

A member of the Canadian team that captured a Gold Medal at last sunmmer's prestigious Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament in the Czech Republic, Hawryluk was awarded Top Conditioned Returning Player during the Wheat Kings Training Camp Fitness Testing last September.

Canada's National Junior Team development camp attendees will gather in Brossard at the Montreal Canadiens' practice facility for practices on Aug. 3 before playing the national junior teams of the Czech Republic and Russia.

Hawryluk is one of three Manitobans to be invited. The other two are Kelowna's Madison Bowey of Winnipeg and Elkhorn's Travis Sanheim of the Calgary Hitmen. Hawryluk, Bowey and Sanheim are three of sixteen WHLers to receive the call Monday.
