T-Birds Lose In Shootout With Stampede

ALBUQUERQUE, NM, Feb. 25, 2010 - In a high scoring contest that saw a combined 229 points, Albuquerque was unable to corral the Idaho Stampede and ultimately fell, 119-110. The Thunderbirds' Chad Toppert led all scorers with 27 points, which tied a career high.

Idaho opened the game hot and led 27-10 with 4:00 to play in the first quarter. Albuquerque trailed 35-23 at the end of the first, but turned things around in the second. The T-Birds took their first lead of the game with 4:25 to play in the half (47-46), and trailed by just three at halftime.

Toppert scored 15 first half points to lead the way for Albuquerque.

The Stampede led by 10 going into the fourth quarter, despite 11 third quarter points from Antoine Agudio. The fourth quarter proved to be much of the same, and the T-Birds were unable to cut the lead to single digits for much of the final period.

Idaho shot 57.1% for the game, including 50.0% from deep to notch the nine point win.

Agudio scored 20 points for Albuquerque. Shane Edwards (17), Sasha Cuic (16) and Jason Horton (10) also scored in double figures for the T-Birds.

Andre Barrett led the way for Idaho with 23 points and 10 assists. Donell Taylor added 18 for the Stampede.

The loss evens the season series at one game apiece.

The two teams will meet again on Friday night during the Thunderbirds' Mardi Gras Party presented by Dairy Queen. The T-Birds will be wearing New Orleans Hornets jerseys during the game, and will be bringing some of the Bourbon Street Mardi Gras atmosphere to Tingley Coliseum. Fans will be given beads when they arrive and also have the chance to bid on game worn jerseys following the game. This Friday will also serve as the team's YMCA night in addition to health professionals night.
