February 25, 2010 - NBA G League (G League)
Reno Bighorns News Release
DES MOINES, Iowa- Reno trailed East Conference-leading Iowa 27-20 after one quarter, but started the second period on a 22-2 run and thwarted a late Iowa rally, defeating the Energy 118-100 Thursday morning in Wells Fargo Arena.
Iowa entered Thursday's game with the D-League's best record, but Reno played Iowa tough for the second-straight contest, highlighted by a 36-14 second quarter edge. Cezary Trybanski and Yaroslav Korolev combined for 21 second-quarter points, and Reno finished its season-long five-game road trip with a 4-1 record.
The win snapped Iowa's season-high nine-game winning streak, and moved the Bighorns closer to the eighth and final playoff spot with just 16 games remaining. Heading into tonight's games, four teams-Albuquerque, Utah, Idaho and Reno-are all within one and a half games of the league's final playoff spot.
Trybanski paced Reno's scoring attack, pouring in a game-high 24 points off the bench on 10-of-11 shooting. Desmon Farmer added 23 points to go along with seven rebounds and six assists, while Will Blalock scored 12 points to go with 10 assists for his second-straight double-double.
Othyus Jeffers finished with 19 points to lead Iowa, which despite the loss still leads the East Conference by eight and a half games over the Maine Red Claws. Earl Barron added a game-high 15 rebounds for the Energy.
Reno returns home on Saturday for a weekend series against Tulsa. Saturday's game tips at 7 p.m. and Sunday's contest is set for 3 p.m.
