
T-Birds defeated by Silvertips in second preseason game

Everett - The Everett Silvertips defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 7-4 Saturday night at Comcast Arena.
This was the second game of the Everett Silvertips Preseason Tournament for the T-Birds. They round out the tournament against the Portland Winter Hawks on Sunday, August 31, at 3 p.m.
Everett took a 1-0 lead at 1:47 of the first period on a power-play goal by Shane Harper. Taylor Ellington and Tyler Maxwell had the assists. Kellan Tochkin scored a 5-on-3 power-play goal at 6:53 of the first to give the Silvertips a 2-0 lead. Kyle Beach and Paul Van de Velde had the assists.
Tyler Maxwell scored at 8:08 of the first to put Everett in front 3-0. Zach Dailey and Brenden Stephen had the assists.
Beach made it a 4-0 Everett lead at 18:05 of the first. Van de Velde and Tochkin were credited with the assists.
Everett outshot Seattle 17-9 in the first period.
The Silvertips took a 5-0 lead with a power-play goal by Maxwell at 6:43 of the second period. Harper and Tyler Parker had the assists.
Jeremy Boyer got the T-Birds on the board at 8:40 of the second with a power-play goal. Devon LeBlanc brought the puck up the right boards from the goal line. Near the blue line he fed the puck low to Boyer who one-timed the pass past Everett goalie Shayne Barrie.
Maxwell scored a power-play goal at 10:19 of the second to give the Silvertips a 6-1 lead. Chris de la Lande and Ellington had the assists.
Everett went in front 7-1 at 12:35 of the second when Ryan White scored. Harper and Stephen had the assists.
Matt Betker scored the second T-Birds goal on a breakaway at 16:57 of the second. Matt Hallick had the puck at the Seattle goal line and hit Betker with a pass up the middle. Betker came in alone on Barrie, made a move left and beat the goalie with a backhand shot high.
The Silvertips outshot the T-Birds 11-7 in the second period and led in total shots 28-16.
Mike Krgovich scored the T-Birds goal at 4:28 of the third period. Ashton Hewson had the puck behind the goal and made a backhand pass to Lindsay Nielsen. Nielsen centered the puck quickly to Krgovich at the right post. Krgovich beat Barrie low for the goal.
Hallick scored at 12:21 of the third to get the T-Birds fourth goal. Kaydon Trumbley had the puck just inside the Seattle blue line. He sent the puck up the middle to a breaking Hallick who came in alone on Barrie. Hallick beat Barrie with a quick wrist shot over the blocker.
Both teams had nine shots on goal in the third period and the Silvertips finished the game with a 37-25 advantage in total shots.
Seattle goalie Calvin Pickard made 30 saves on 27 shots.
Barrie stopped 21 of 25 shots.
The T-Birds only home exhibition game of the preseason will be Saturday, September 13, at Kent Valley Ice Centre against the Portland Winter Hawks. Game time is 6 p.m. Tickets can be purchased by calling the T-Birds at 206-448-PUCK, at any Ticketmaster outlet or at Kent Valley Ice Centre.
