T-Birds Acquire Ashton McNelly from Swift Current

KENT - Seattle Thunderbirds general manager Bil La Forge announced today the team has acquired forward Ashton McNelly from the Swift Current Broncos for left wing Brecon Wood and a conditional eighth round pick in the 2021 Bantam Draft.

"We appreciate Brecon's time with the team. We wish him all the best in Swift Current," said La Forge. "We're excited to get a high character prospect in Ashton and we will be watching his progress this season in midget."

Last year McNelly played 31 games with the Fort Saskatchewan Rangers Midget AAA team and had one goal and one assist. In 2017-18 he played 35 games with the Fort Saskatchewan Rangers Bantam AAA team and had 16 goals and 10 assists for 26 points. McNelly was selected by Broncos in the 10th round, 216th overall, in the 2018 Bantam Draft.

Ashton is the younger brother of current T-Birds defenseman Cade McNelly.

Wood played 46 games with the T-Birds last season and had three goals and five assists for eight points. He has eight goals and seven assists in 137 games with the T-Birds and Moose Jaw Warriors in the last three seasons.

The T-Birds start the 2019-20 Western Hockey League regular season against the Kamloops Blazers on Saturday, September 21, at 6:05pm at accesso ShoWare Center.
