Hidalgo, Texas --- The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees, in conjunction with the Central Hockey League, today announced that goaltender Jeremy Symington has been selected as the Southern Conference starting goaltender for the 2006 CHL All Star Game in Bossier-Shreveport on January 18. Starters were selected through a league-wide vote of head coaches and media.

Symington signed with Rio after beginning the season in Youngstown, where he went 2-0 with a 2.89 GAA and .895 save percentage. The 28-year-old is in his seventh season of pro hockey and spent last season with Port Huron (UHL).

He set a franchise record, beginning in the third period of his first game as a Bee, with 171:47 of shutout hockey. The streak started on Nov. 18 vs. Arizona and ended Nov. 28 at Laredo. He posted consecutive shutouts Nov. 22 vs. Bossier-Shreveport and Nov. 24 at Bossier-Shreveport with a total of 65 saves. For his efforts, he was named the Oakley CHL Goalie of the Week for Week 6.

Symington played the 2004-05 season with the Laredo Bucks, posting an 18-10-1 record along with a 2.39 GAA and .912 save percentage. He also appeared in seven playoff games that season, going 3-4 in the postseason as Laredo lost in the President's Cup Finals to Colorado.

A 6-foot, 200-pound native of Camlachie, Ontario, Symington was drafted by the New York Islanders in 1997, going 196th overall in the eighth round of the NHL Draft. His other pro stops include Elmira (UHL), Lubbock (CHL) and Binghamton (AHL). He spent four seasons at St. Lawrence University from 1997-2001, and went 16-8-0 as a senior with a 2.93 GAA.

The Bees return home for two games vs. Laredo on December 29 and 30, both beginning at 7:30 p.m. The team travels to Laredo Sunday for another 7:30 p.m. game. The first 2500 fans this Friday receive 2007 team calendars, while the 2500 fans Saturday get cowbells.

This week's games will be broadcast on ESPN Radio 1240 AM and killerbeehockey.com, while Saturday's match will also be on XERV-9 (Televisa, Cable 19).
