Switching Sides: Former CHL All-Star Joey Sides Joins Eagles
February 1, 2012 - ECHL (ECHL)
Colorado Eagles News Release
LOVELAND, Colo. - The Colorado Eagles of the ECHL announced today that they've signed forward Joey Sides. Sides was a CHL All-Star last season, and recorded 98 points (44-54-98) and 219 penalty minutes during the past two seasons with the Arizona Sundogs, in which he was arguably the club's best player. In 25 games with the Friesland Flyers (Netherlands) this season, he's registered 45 points (18-27-45) and 80 PIMs.
"Joey's a player who we're familiar with from his time in Arizona, and he's a very welcome addition to our lineup" said Eagles Assistant Coach Greg Pankewicz. "He's not the biggest in stature, but he plays hard and brings a lot of things to the team. He's a good puck-pursuit guy who has good hands and can get under opposing players' skin, and he's also a guy who can play in any situation and excels on special teams."
In 16 career games against the Eagles, the 5-foot-11-inch, 185-pound Sides was a pain in the side, recording 14 points (8-6-14) -- eight of them on special teams. Prior to turning pro, the Sun Valley, Idaho native spent four seasons at Wentworth Institute of Technology (D-III), acting as the team's captain during his final two years.
Sides, who will wear #19, will be in the lineup when the team travels to Bakersfield, Calif. for games Friday & Saturday.
