Reign Slip Past Aces 4-3 in Shootout

The Alaska Aces battled back from two third period deficits to claim a point, but eventually fell 4-3 in a shootout to the Ontario Reign at the Citizens Business Bank Arena on Tuesday night. The Aces fell to 31-9-6, on the season, and 0-4 in shootouts on the road. The Aces continue their road trip with a three-game series in Las Vegas later in the week. The clubs combined for just 13 shots in the first period. However, the each struck to make it 1-1 at first intermission. Alaska got on the board first when Dan Kissel scored at 10:57 from the left circle off of a feed from Garry Nunn. The Aces lead was their first in four games, but lasted just eight minutes. Adrian Van de Mosselaer scored his first professional goal on a shot through traffic from the high slot at 18:57 to even the score. Ontario outshot Alaska 8-5 in the period.

The clubs played a mostly scoreless second period, until 15:11 when Ontario took their first lead. At 15:51 Kyle Kraemer stole the puck behind the Aces net and found Brady Calla in the left circle for Ontario's second goal, making it 2-1 Reign.

In the third period, Alaska forced their way back into the game. Zach Harrison scored from the right side of the crease to make it 2-2 at 2:59 of the period, extending his point streak to six games. Ontario reclaimed the lead when Derek Couture capped a two-on-one with a rebound goal at 12:01. Alaska tied the game yet again on a Jordan Kremyr redirection from the slot at 15:24 to make it 3-3. Alaska had a late power play in regulation, and another in overtime, however could not find the game winner. In the shootout, Alaska went 0-4, and Ontario converted two of their three chances to earn the victory.

Adam Courchaine (14-5-4) suffered the shootout loss, making 21 saves on 24 shots, and stopping one of three in a shootout. Chris Carrozzi (9-5-3) earned the win, stopping 31 of 34 shots against and all four in the shootout. The Aces power play went 0-4, while the Reign went 0-1. Alaska outshot Ontario 34-25 in the game.
