Florida Everblades News Release
ESTERO, FL -- Jussi Rynnas stopped 47 of 49 shots to help the Reading Royals defeat the Florida Everblades 4-2 Wednesday night at Germain Arena.
Despite being outshot 20-7 in the first period, the Royals were efficient in there limited scoring chances. Reading scored the first goal of the game, taking advantage of a power play opportunity when Kenny Ryan picked up the rebound and fired a wrist shot to beat Florida's goalie Shane Owen.
Florida answered back five minutes later when David Rutherford's pass from behind the goal found Mike Rathcuk whose backhanded shot was able to get past Jussi Rynnas' glove tying the game at one.
Nearly five minutes later, Reading added another goal from Tyler Brenner who found a deflected shot in front of the goal and was able to slam it past Owen to give Reading the 2-1 lead.
Florida refused to go into the break with a deficit and tied it up again with only 39 seconds left. The score came after Florida captain Mathieu Roy battled on the boards for the puck and then found Trevor Bruess who scored his tenth goal of the season after his wrist shot found the back of the net.
Both teams offenses cooled down in the 2nd period and the defenses would take over keeping the game tied at two.
In the third period the Royals found their rhythm again. Reading took a 3-2 lead when Dave Cowen received a pass from Olivier LaBelle at the right side circle and fired a wrist shot past Owen for the go ahead goal at 11:11 of the period. Reading put the game out of reach when John Scrymgeour scored from point blank range giving the Royals a 4-2 lead.
Jussi Rynnas earns the win stopping 47 of 49 shots while Everblades newcomer Shane Owen takes the loss in his debut stopping 24 of 28 shots.
