Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release
ABOUT LAST NIGHT: The RailRiders fell to the Syracuse Chiefs 5-2 on Thursday afternoon at PNC Field. SWB dropped 2-of-3 against Syracuse, their first series loss to the Chiefs this season.
WRONG WAY!: With yesterday's setback, the RailRiders have dropped 11 of their last 15. The slide began with a 15-2 loss to the Louisville Bats on June 25. The team has been outscored 58-54 in the games following the rout to Louisville.
STOP! THIEF!: The Syracuse Chiefs stole five bases off the RailRiders battery on Thursday. It marked the most pilfered bags allowed this season and the most since Gwinnett stole four on May 7. SWB has caught only 19 of 94 would-be stealers (.202). Only Indianapolis (18) and Charlotte (15) have nabbed fewer.
ARE YOU TOO GOOD FOR YOUR HOME?!: After going 2-5 on the homestand, the RailRiders stand eight games below .500 at PNC Field (21-29) and 13 games over on the road (26-13). The team has hit .283 on the road compared to a .262 mark at home. On the road, SWB has scored 207 runs in 39 games (5.3/game). At home, the squad has plated 182 runs in 50 games (3.6/game). The pitching has performed worse on the road (3.67 ERA) than at home (3.44 ERA). No IL team has a better road winning percentage than the RailRiders (.667), who have won 19 of 25 away from Moosic.
THE BIG FIG: Cole Figueroa made his debut with the New York Yankees on Thursday, going 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and scoring twice in the club's 6-2 win over the visiting Athletics. At the time of his promotion, Figueroa owned a .317 average, 2nd best in the IL. He recorded mult-hit efforts in 10 straight games from June 28-July 6 (.548).
SECOND (BASE) LIFE: Rob Refsnyder has gone 20-for-49 (.408) over his last 15G and owns a 7G hitting streak. His 16 walks in that time rank second in the IL. His season-long .387 OBP ranks third in the IL. He has homered twice in the last four games, both pull jobs hit with authority. His error total has also dropped dramatically month by month: April (7E in 20GP), May (4E in 24GP), June (2E in 27GP), July (0E in 9GP).
UP & DOWN: All-Star first baseman/DH Kyle Roller leads the team in homers (12), RBIs (47) and walks (44), but finds himself in a 10-for-58 (.172) funk over his last 14 games played with 15 strikeouts and just one extra-base hit (.185 SLG). Roller will not be among the IL's three participants in the 2015 Triple-A All-Star Home Run Derby on Monday, July 13 at Omaha's Wener Park, but two former Yankees' minor leaguers will participate for the PCL in Tacoma's Jesus Montero, an SWB alumnus, and Reno's Peter O'Brien.
OFF THE RAILS: Danny Burawa fired a career-high four innings on Thursday...the right-hander allowed a run on two hits with three strikeouts...The RailRiders were 2-for-10 with RISP on Thursday and hit .296 in scoring chances for the series...Both teams left 23 runners on base in the three-game set...SWB totaled 69 hits during their 7G homestand, but only 13 XHB...
LETS GETS SERIESOUS: The Bisons lead the season set with the RailRiders 5-4. The road team has won all but one game thus far, a 4-0 triumph by SWB at PNC Field. SWB is 3-0 at Coca-Cola Field.
AS THE ROSTER TURNS: Since June 9, the RailRiders have made 103 player transactions. Counting rehabbers, 56 players have donned an SWB uni this year.
