Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (39-50) won for the 10th time in the past 12 games with a come-from-behind, 4-2 win over the Pawtucket Red Sox (38-51) on Friday night at McCoy Stadium.
In the top of the ninth with the game tied at two, PawSox RHP Pat Light (1.1 IP, H, 2 R, 2 ER, 4 BB, K) walked three batters to load the bases with one out before he hit Chase d'Arnaud with a 3-2 pitch to bring home Jordan Danks from third and give the Pigs a 3-2 lead. Tyler Henson followed with an RBI fielder's choice to bring home an insurance run and open up a 4-2 advantage.
Light took the loss for Pawtucket and drops to 0-2 on the season.
RHP Juan Gutierrez (2.0 IP, 2 H, 3 K) tossed a pair of scoreless frames to get the win for the Pigs and improves to 3-1 on the year. LHP Adam Loewen (1.0 IP, K) retired the side in order in the ninth to pick up his fourth save.
Rusney Castillo gave the PawSox an early 2-0 lead with a two-run single in the bottom of the first.
The Pigs had a pair of runners on in both the second and third innings against Pawtucket starter Henry Owens, but were unable to push a run across.
Russ Canzler's (2-2, HR, 2 RBI, R) two-run shot after an Aaron Altherr (2-5, R) bunt single in the top of the sixth tied it at two for the IronPigs. It was Canzler's seventh home run of the season.
Owens (n/d) gave up two runs on five hits while walking two and fanning nine over seven innings of work.
Lehigh Valley starter Aaron Nola (n/d) allowed two runs on seven hits to go along with two walks and six strikeouts over 6.0 IP.
In the home half of the eighth, Pawtucket had runners at second and third with two outs, but Gutierrez was able to get Mike Miller looking at strike three to end the inning.
The series continues on Saturday at 6:05 p.m. from McCoy Stadium as RHP Jason Berken (5-5, 3.33) gets the ball for the Pigs against PawSox LHP Brian Johnson (8-6, 2.73).
