Greenville Swamp Rabbits News Release

LAST WEEK'S RECAP

Overall Picture: The Greenville Swamp Rabbits (24-24-7), proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack, completed a four-game road trip last week with a frustrating three-game series through the North Division. The Swamp Rabbits fell in each of their three games against Wheeling, Toledo and Brampton and dropped five points behind Elmira for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

Greenville kicked off the week on Friday with a 5-1 loss to the Wheeling Nailers in its only trip to WesBanco Arena this season. Kodie Curran opened the scoring less than seven minutes into the first period with his fifth tally of the season, but the Nailers responded with five unanswered goals, including four in the final frame.

The series shifted to Toledo, Ohio on Saturday where the Swamp Rabbits let the Toledo Walleye off the hook in a 5-2 setback at the Huntington Center. Josh Nicholls and Michael St. Croix helped Greenville build a two-goal lead midway through the second period, but the visitors allowed five unanswered goals for the second night in a row in front of 8,300 fans. Toledo's leading scorer Shane Berschbach (1g, 2a) led the way for the top team in the North Division, while Josh Shalla (1g, 1a), A.J. Jenks (1g, 1a) and Evan Rankin (2a) also recorded multiple points.

It was a quick turnaround on Sunday as the Swamp Rabbits concluded the week with their first-ever trip north of the border. In Greenville's inaugural meeting against the Brampton Beast, the Swamp Rabbits surrendered three goals in a span of 4:21 during the third period and let a two-goal lead slip away in a 4-3 setback at the Powerade Centre in Brampton, Ontario. Garett Bembridge, Ryan Rashid and Andrew Dommett each scored in the opening frame, but the Swamp Rabbits' losing streak hit six games for the second time this season (0-5-1), tying a season-high.

UPCOMING GAMES

Saturday, Mar. 5 vs. Atlanta (29-19-7) - 7 p.m. ET*

Sunday, Mar. 6 at Atlanta (29-19-7) - 7:05 p.m. ET

QUICK SHIFTS

Wrong Kind of Streak: The Swamp Rabbits enter Week 20 on a six-game drought (0-5-1) dating back to February 19, tied for the team's longest skid this season. The club has been outscored 24-11 during that span. Greenville also dropped six straight games from October 30 - November 8, but recovered to win six of its next nine contests. The Swamp Rabbits will look to respond in the same way this month during their most critical stretch of the season.

Home Sweet Home: Beginning Saturday against Atlanta, five of the Swamp Rabbits' next six games will take place at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena. Greenville hasn't played at home since February 20 and will look to snap a streak of 10 straight home games without a win in regulation (2-5-3) dating back to December 20. The Swamp Rabbits are 1-3-1 against the Gladiators at home this season and 11-10-6 on SANDLAPPER Securities Rink overall during the campaign.

Party Down South: Each of the Swamp Rabbits next 11 games will take place in the South Division, running all the way through March 26. Greenville will play all four division foes during that span including Atlanta (4x), Florida (4x), South Carolina (2x) and Orlando (1x). The Swamp Rabbits are 15-13-5 against division foes this season, better than the club was against the division last season when it went 16-17-3 against those four teams through March 1.

Pennies, "Nicholls" and Dimes: New York Rangers prospect Josh Nicholls buried a shorthanded breakaway last Saturday against Toledo and bookended that effort with assists on Friday and Sunday. Nicholls now has points in three straight games and is tied for fourth on the team with 13 goals this season. The third-year pro is also fifth on the club with 0.63 points/game - 26 points in 41 appearances.

News and Notes: Justin DaSilva is tied for second among ECHL rookies with six major penalties... The Swamp Rabbits are 14-2-2 when leading after two periods... Greenville is fifth in the league with eighth shorthanded goals scored this season.
