Svedberg, Wild Garner First Win with 3-0 Shutout of Reign

Iowa Heads to Rockford For Saturday Game at 6 p.m.
DES MOINES, IA - The Iowa Wild (1-2-0-0, 2 points) defeated the Ontario Reign (0-2-0-0, 0 points) 3-0 in front of 4,628 fans on Friday night at Wells Fargo Arena. Wild goalie Niklas Svedberg (1-2-0) made 27 saves for the shutout and first win of the season. Veteran forward Pat Cannone and rookie defenseman Carson Soucy each tallied a goal and an assist in the win. In his AHL debut, Waterloo, IA native and Reign goalie Cal Petersen (0-1-0) made 25 saves in the loss. Iowa heads to Rockford for a game on Saturday at 6 p.m.
After a scoreless first period, Wild forward Pat Cannone gave Iowa a 1-0 lead at 9:58 of the middle frame. His third goal of the season came off a scramble in front of the Ontario net. Cannone tipped in Landon Ferraro's shot to beat Petersen on the glove side. Forward Gerald Mayhew added an assist on the only goal of the period.
Rookie defenseman Carson Soucy extended Iowa's lead to 2-0 at 5:58 of the third period. His first career goal was assisted by defenseman Brennan Menell and Cannone. Soucy blasted the puck from the blueline after an Ontario defender tried clearing the puck from the Reign crease. At 19:00 of the third period, forward Colton Beck scored an empty-net goal. His first goal of the season was set up by Soucy and made it a final score of 3-0 in favor of Iowa.
After a road game in Rockford, the Wild returns home to meet the Manitoba Moose on Friday, Oct. 20 at 7 p.m. Ladies Night is presented by Style Encore. It is also a Bus Beer night with $2 beers presented by 100.3 The Bus. There is also a $2 off Barefoot Refresh special presented by Barefoot Wine. The Collegeville ticket special is available for purchase at the game presented by KISS FM.
Iowa and Manitoba faceoff again on Saturday, Oct. 21 at 7 p.m. at Wells Fargo Arena. There is a pregame tailgate party, showcasing the local concert series performance. Decoy performs from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on the South Side Patio. Fans may purchase two tallboys for $10 for the local concert series. The Brewdog pack is also available for purchase at the game.
The Wild hosts the IceHogs in Des Moines on Wednesday, Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. It is Wine Wednesday with $2 off Barefoot refresh presented by Barefoot Wine.
