
Holm Powers Comets to Win over Crunch

Syracuse, N.Y. - The Utica Comets beat the Syracuse Crunch by a score of 3-2 Saturday night at the Onondaga County War Memorial Arena.
The Comets scored first for the fourth consecutive game, this time off the stick of Nikolay Goldobin eight minutes into the game. Reid Boucher and Philip Holm picked up the assists. The assist was Holm's first point in North America. With 46 seconds remaining in the first period, Cory Conacher tied the game on a broken play in the Comets' defensive zone. Mat Bodie and Anthony Cirelli were credited with the assists.
Holm regained the Comets' lead with a power play strike with at the 12:41 mark of the middle frame. Carter Bancks and Goldobin tallied the assists on the only goal of the second period.
Erik Cernak tied the game at two just less than four minutes into the third period. Mitchel Stephens and Daniel Walcott had the assists. Three minutes later, Michael Chaput put the Comets back up 3-2, tipping a shot from Evan McEneny on the power play. Holm also collected an assist on the play. The Comets outlasted the Crunch's late flurry to secure the victory.
Thatcher Demko finished with 24 saves, while Michael Leighton stopped 16 of 19 shots. The Comets power play went 2-7, while the penalty kill did not allow a goal in five attempts.
The Comets are back in action Saturday night for against the Rochester Americans. Puck drops at 7:05 p.m. at Blue Cross Arena. The game can be heard on 94.9 KROCK and viewed on AHL Live.
