Sussex Skyhawks top Ottawa Rapidz

(OTTAWA, ON) Thursday, August 7, 2008 - With a series loss on the line, the Ottawa Rapidz took on the visiting Sussex Skyhawks trying to even the series at two. Despite a crowd of 2,913 cheering them on the Rapidz were defeated 7-5 by the Sussex Skyhawks.
The Rapidz hitters got off to a great start with the first three pitches by Skyhawks hurler Craig Snipp resulting in base hits. Jared Lemieux doubled, who was then doubled home by Jose de los Santos for a 1-0 lead. Jereme Milons singled and Jabe Bergeron walked to load the bases, Nate Hall was also walked and Scotty McKnight was hit by a pitch to force in two more runs for a 4-0 lead.
The Skyhawks responded with two runs in the second inning, thanks to Alex Frazier's two-run homerun to cut the lead to 4-2. Ottawa added a single run in the fourth as a result of Kyle Geiger singling home Milons for a 5-2 lead.
Sussex exploded for five runs in the top of the fifth, taking the lead for the first time in the game. The inning was highlighted by two-run homerun from Sussex catcher Cliff Panezich for a 7-5 lead.
Roger Lincoln came into the game in the seventh inning allowing no runs in three innings to earn his first save of the season. Adam Hawes (4-9) was credited with the loss surrendering seven runs (all earned) on seven hits, with three walks and fanning eight batters in 5.2 innings of work. Craig Snipp (5-5) pitched 6.0 innings allowing five runs (all earned) on nine hits, with five walks and three strikeouts.
The Rapidz play host to the Brockton Rox tomorrow night as Tanner Watson (2-5, 5.13 ERA) will battle Wayne Lundgren (6-3, 3.91 ERA) for the Rox in game one of a three-game series at 7:05pm.
