Brockton Rox News Release

Brockton, MA (August 7, 2008) - Not even ace RHP John Kelly could escape the woes which have haunted the Rox over a tough stretch of games as he and RHP James Baker each took losses in a double header with the Quebec Capitales on Thursday night. Brockton lost the first game 5-0, and the second 4-2.

Baker was making his first professional start in the first game, and kept his team close, departing after four innings in which he allowed three runs on four hits. The big blow came off the bat of C Greg Stevens who hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning. Baker did not get any help from his offense however, which was shut out for the sixth time this season.

In game two, the Rox turned to Kelly, who had won four of his last six starts. The offense arrived in time for the second inning of game two as CF Eugene Julien drove a double into the left field corner with runners at first and second base. Both runners scored on the play and Brockton led 2-0. However Quebec chipped away with a run in the third and then three in the fifth on three consecutive, two-out run producing hits to take a 4-2 advantage. Kelly gutted out the remainder of the game, throwing 125 pitches in a losing effort.

Brockton now will hit the road for a week with two Canadian opponents on the horizon. The Rox face Ottawa on Friday night at Rapidz stadium in Ottawa, Ontario. RHP Wayne Lundgren will start for Brockton against Ottawa RHP Tanner Watson. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
