Ottawa Voyageurs News Release
(OTTAWA, ON) August 7, 2008 - The Ottawa Rapidz are pleased to host Gatineau Olympics star Claude Giroux as well as other Canadian amateur athletes tomorrow night at Rapidz Stadium.
Giroux, a native of Hearst, ON will be throwing out the Ceremonial First Pitch as the Rapidz play host to the Brockton Rox for the first game of a three-game set. The game is scheduled for 7:05pm. Tomorrow night will also serve as an opportunity to pay tribute not just to Giroux, but to other amateur athletes who will also be in attendance.
The 20 year-old Giroux was drafted by the Philadelphia Flyers in the first round, 22nd overall during the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. He made his NHL debut right here in Ottawa when the Senators hosted the Philadelphia Flyers February 19, 2008.
Giroux began his career in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League by signing with the Gatineau Olympiques as a free agent during the 2005-06 regular season. Giroux went on to score 39 goals for a total of 103 points in only 69 games during his rookie season for the Olympiques. He later set a QMJHL record in May 2008 when he scored an astounding 51 points in only 19 playoff games leading the Olympiques to their seventh Memorial Cup final.
The Ottawa Rapidz are proud to bring professional baseball to fans in the Ottawa-Gatineau region in a fun, affordable, family-friendly environment. Tickets are available online at www.ottawarapidz.ca, by calling (613) 820-4000 or at the Rapidz Stadium Box Office.
