Ottawa Champions News Release
OTTAWA - A low-scoring contest swung the Sussex County Miners' way at RCGT Park on Tuesday night. They edged the Ottawa Champions 2-1 in the second game of a three-game series.
The game came down to the wire - with the Champions putting two runners in scoring position in the ninth inning before getting called out on strikes in back-to-back at bats to end the game.
Champions manager Hal Lanier did not agree with the home plate umpire's interpretation of the final two at-bats, which led to the Champions defeat in the final inning. But he did like his team's fight in the late portions of the game.
"We had put on good comebacks in the eighth and ninth innings," he said. "And our pitchers threw the ball well - Chrismon, Sheehan, and Maine."
RHP Austin Chrismon did end up getting awarded the loss in the game, but his line was still impressive. He put up seven strong innings as the starter, allowing just seven hits and two earned runs. It was his longest outing this season.
Offensively, DH Sebastien Boucher led the way. He earned CKDJ 107.9's player of the game award for the second consecutive night, knocking three hits on the evening.
Ottawa returns to action Wednesday night against Sussex County. This homestand doesn't last long before the Champions head back out onto the road - only one more games against the Miners this week.
Tickets for every Champions game can be purchased at ottawachampions.com, in-person at the RCGT Park box office or by calling the Champs at 613-745-2255 (BALL).
