
Surf Fall to Road Warriors

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (July 2, 2003) â Pennsylvania pounded out four runs on eight hits off Surf starter Yon German as the Road Warriors defeated Atlantic City, 5-2, Wednesday evening at the Sandcastle.
The Road Warriors tallied two runs on four hits in the first inning, led by RBI singles by Mike Lopez-Cao and Gary Johnson.
The Surf countered in the bottom half of the inning with an RBI sac fly off the bat of Juan Thomas and a one-run single by Brandon Jackson.
Pennsylvania struck again in the third inning off an RBI single from Jerry Amador and a sacrifice fly from Johnson, putting the Road Warriors up 4-2.
German (0-1), pitching in his first game in the United States since 2001, lasted just two innings and allowed four runs on eight hits with one walk.
Lopez-Cao drove in another run off a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning, rounding out the scoring for the game.
Road Warriors starter David Rollandini (3-1) pitched exceptionally through five innings, allowing two runs, none earned, on three hits while striking out four and walking one to pick up the victory.
Gustavo Escobar and Wellington Sanchez had two hits and two runs apiece for Pennsylvania while Dario Delgado added two hits.
Brody Jackson was 2-4 with a double and a run scored to lead the Surf while his brother Brandon added two hits.
Ric Johnson extended his consecutive on-base streak to 25 games with a double in the third inning.
The Surf fall to 27-30 with the loss and Pennsylvania snaps a three-game losing streak and improves to 13-44 with the win.
ON DECK: The Surf and the Road Warriors continue their series on Thursday, July 3, at 6:35 p.m., at the Sandcastle. A fireworks show will follow the game, sponsored by Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey. NBA/ABA legend and Sixers great Julius Erving will throw out the game''s ceremonial first pitch.
