Atlantic City Surf News Release
ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (July 2, 2003) â The Atlantic League has announced its 2003 All-Stars, and the Atlantic City Surf will have five representatives on the South Division squad.
Catcher Emison Soto, second baseman Raul Marval, third baseman Brandon Jackson, right-handed starter Andy Zwirchitz, and right-handed closer Randi Mallard will all play in the 2003 Atlantic League All-Star Game to be played in Nashua, N.H., on July 9, at historic Hollman Stadium.
Jackson has been among the league's top players all season long, putting together a 31-game consecutive on-base streak at one point. He currently is third in the league with a .335 batting average and second in hits with 65.
Soto leads Atlantic City with 29 RBI and has smashed six home runs this year while Marval is hitting a solid .284 with 27 RBI and 35 runs scored.
Zwirchitz (pronounced "Squeez-itz") has been one of the Surf's top hurlers this season, going 6-2 with a 3.28 ERA and 40 strikeouts. He has held opponents to a mere .184 batting average and won six consecutive starts before suffering a loss to Camden last Monday.
Mallard is currently second in the Atlantic League with 13 saves and has a strong 2.70 ERA.
"We are very proud of our All-Stars and feel they will represent our team and organization well in Nashua," said Surf general manager Mario Perrucci.
