Surf Defeat Grays on Opening Night

The Atlantic City Surf defeated The Grays 5-4 in the clubs home opener and CanAm League debut before 2320 Thursday night at Bernie Robbins Stadium.

Atlantic City's Rich Daly broke a deadlock at 4 with a sacrifice fly to left center field that drove in Ed Montague in the bottom of the eighth inning. Atlantic City's Matt Pike then came in and shut the door on the Grays in the 9th to pick up his first save of the season. Atlantic City's Nathan Staggs earned the victory while Matt Zachary took the loss for the Grays. Staggs went a perfect 1 2/3 innings with 2 strikeouts. The Surf's offense was led by Matt Burke who went 2-2 with 2 RBIs and a run scored. The Surf also got RBIs from Rico Santana and Daly. Chad Gabriel went 3-5 for the Grays and Tyrone Pendergrass was 2-4 with 2 RBIs for the losers.

The two teams will meet again Friday night at Bernie Robbins Stadium at 7:05 PM. A post game fireworks show will follow the game sponsored by Bernie Robbins Fine Jewlery.
