The first game of the Can-Am season went to extra innings Thursday. The New Jersey Jackals used a ninth-inning DH Alex Frazier homerun to tie the game after entering the inning trailing 2-0. After Justin Garza sent three straight Skyhawks back to the dugout to send the game to extra innings, Jackals LF Jud Thigpen picked up his first homerun in the tenth to give the Jackals their first lead of the game. Jackals closer Rusty Tucker entered in the tenth inning and picked up the save for New Jersey. Jackals starting pitcher Isaac Pavlik did not factor in the decision but had a solid night, pitching six innings while allowing two runs on six hits with five strikeouts.

Atlantic City 5, Grays 4

With the score tied in the eighth, Atlantic City DH Rich Daly lofted a sacrifice fly to left field that scored LF Ed Montague to give the Surf a one-run lead. Atlantic City closer Matt Pike enterned the game in the ninth with that lead and promptly struck out three straight Grays batters to pick up an emphatic save. Surf 1B Mark Burke had a solid night as he went 2-for-2 with two RBI and a run scored. For the Grays CF Tyrone Pendergrass went 2-for-4 with two RBI. Grays starting pitcher Beau Dannemiller pitched five innings and allowed two runs on three hits while striking out three Surf batters but did not factor in the decision.

Quebec 9, Worcester 5

The Capitales got their Can-Am League Title defense started on the right note opening night. Quebec scored nine runs with eight batters picking up at least one hit. LF Mike Galloway led the Capitales with three hits in five at bats and crossed home plate twice. Starting Quebec pitcher Jorge Perez earned his first win with a six-inning three-hit performance, allowing one run and striking out two Tornadoes batters. For Worcester C Patrick Perry went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI. The Tornadoes picked up four runs in the ninth to pull within four but Quebec reliever Michel Simard struck out Worcester LF Josh Beauregard to end the Tornadoes threat.

North Shore 6, Nashua 2

The North Shore pitching staff put together an impressive outing in its first game Thursday. Starting pitcher Bryan Morse picked up the win with five innings of two-run baseball in which he allowed five hits and struck out three. Relievers Shawn McNamara, Dennis Robinson and Kevin Fitzgerald combined to pitch the final four frames, allowing one run on three hits while collectively striking out four. On offense the Spirit was led by SS Jerson Perez, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored. For Nashua 1B Bryan Duplissie went 2-for-3 on the night with an RBI.
