Spirit Spoil Pride Opener, 6-2

(NASHUA, NH, May 24, 2007) Jerson Perez and Brad Rea drove in two runs apiece Thursday night as the North Shore Spirit downed the Nashua Pride, 6-2, before an Opening Night crowd of 1,852 at Historic Holman Stadium.

The Spirit (1-0) broke a scoreless tie in the top of the fourth when Perez stroked a single to right field bringing home Mike Torres with the first North Shore run. Ricardo Cordova's infield grounder scored Juan Gutierrez to put the Spirit on top, 2-0. Both runs came against Nashua starter and loser Tim Bausher (0-1) who scattered five hits over five innings, walking three and striking out four.

Nashua (0-1) cut the North Shore lead in half in the fifth inning when third baseman Andy Dillard homered off North Shore starter Bryan Morse (1-0) who went five innings to earn the win. Morse allowed four hits, walking one and fanning three.

North Shore added a single run in the eighth inning on a leadoff triple by Perez and a sacrifice fly off the bat of B.J. Weed. The Spirit completed their scoring in the eighth with three runs on a two-run single by Rea and a run-scoring single by Perez.

The Pride added a run in the eighth on a Bryan Duplissie double which scored Jose Velazquez.

Nashua and North Shore will resume their four-game series on Friday night at 7:05. It'll be a battle of righthanders with Akira "A-OK" Okamoto on the mound for the Pride and Matt Bishop for the Spirit at Historic Holman Stadium. Fireworks will follow Friday's game and the first 1,250 fans to enter the stadium will receive special "Dice-K vs. A-OK" t-shirts.
