(WHITAKER BANK BALLPARK, Lexington, Ky.) Rafael Bautista had four hits, including a home run, and stole two bases as the Hagerstown Suns defeated the Lexington Legends 6-4 Thursday night.
The Suns scored two runs in the top of the first inning. Bautista reached first on an infield single. After Wilmer Difo bunted for a hit, he and Bautista executed a double steal, putting runners at second and third. Bautista scored on Isaac Ballou's ground out, and Difo came home on a single by Spencer Kieboom.
The Legends came back to take a 3-2 lead with three runs in the bottom of the first, two scoring on a double by Humberto Arteaga.
But the Suns claimed the lead for good with two runs in the second inning. David Masters drew a leadoff walk, moved to second on a base hit by Narciso Mesa, and came around to score the tying run when third baseman Mauricio Ramos threw past first for an error after fielding Bautista's bunt single. Difo's single brought Mesa home and put the Suns ahead 4-3.
Bautista's solo homer made it 5-3 in the fourth inning. The Legends scored a run in the fifth on Alfredo Escalera's triple and a ground out by Kenny Diekroeger.
Hagerstown added their final run in the ninth when Bautista singled, stole his South Atlantic League-leading 48th base of the year, moved to third on an infield out and scored on a Ballou's single to right field.
Hagerstown starter Hector Silvestre (5-6) worked the first eight innings and picked up the win. Andrew Cooper pitched a scoreless ninth for his first save. Legends' starter Tripp Davis (2-1) took the loss.
The series continues Friday night. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
