Asheville Tourists News Release
Kannapolis, NC-- The Asheville Tourists and the Kannapolis Intimidators waited out a 40 minute rain delay before beginning Thursday night's contest at CMC NorthEast Stadium. Once the game was officially underway, both starting pitchers demonstrated their dominance early. In the end Asheville plated the game's only run to win 1-0. The Tourists have now won their last nine contests away from McCormick Field.
Antonio Senzatela ran his record to 10-1 with the win. The Tourists right-hander pitched seven shutout innings and only surrendered one hit. In the second inning, he walked Jacob Morris on a boarder-line payoff pitch, but Morris was almost immediately caught stealing. In the bottom of the third, Senzatela gave up a ground-ball single through the left side of the infield to Nolan Earley. The Valencia, Venezuela native struck out a season-high nine batters.
James Dykstra was equally as impressive. Through his first seven innings, the Tourists managed just one hit off Kannapolis' righty; a two-out infield single by Emerson Jimenez in the third. When Dykstra came back out to pitch the eighth, Asheville finally broke through.
Jordan Patterson began the rally with a one-out single into right. Jose Briceno followed with a line drive single to left. With runners at first and second, Max White delivered a base hit to shallow left field and Patterson raced home to score the only run of the game.
Troy Neiman relieved Senzatela in the eighth and tossed two scoreless, hitless innings to notch his sixth save of the year. Kannapolis managed just one hit and sent only one over the minimum to the plate. They did not have a runner reach second base all game.
Senzatela's nine strikeouts are the most by any individual Tourists pitcher this season and the one hit allowed is the fewest by an Asheville opponent so far.
The same two teams are back in action Friday night with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05pm.
