Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release

Jacksonville, Fla. - The Jacksonville Suns again used timely offense and a strong starting pitching performance to cruise to a 6-2 victory over the Huntsville Stars in front of 7,980 on Saturday night at the Baseball Grounds.

The Suns improved to a record of 44-20 and opened their winning streak to 11 games. In addition, Jacksonville has now won 19 of the last 20 games. The 2005 Jacksonville club had a 12-game winning streak, the best since 1988.

Suns starter Joel Hanrahan shut down the Huntsville attack throughout his seven inning outing by not allowing a run on only three hits. Hanrahan walked three and struck out five.

On the other side his offense supported him early as a second inning RBI walk from Adam Greenberg started the scoring to make it 1-0 Jacksonville. Hanrahan next helped his own cause with a bases loaded single to increase the lead to 2-0. Chin-Lung Hu then singled to drive in another run to make it a 3-0 Suns advantage.

The Suns went back at it in the third inning as Justin Ruggiano recorded a sacrifice fly to increase the lead to 4-0.

Ruggiano added to the lead again in the sixth inning as he belted homerun number eight, a solo shot deep past the left-centerfield wall to make it 5-0.

After Hanrahan left the game Huntsville began scoring in the eighth inning with two runs off of reliever Adam Thomas that cut the lead to 5-2. Casey Hoorelbeke came in to slam the door on the rally by inducing a groundout for the final out of the inning.

After Andy LaRoche belted his eighth homerun to start the bottom of the eighth inning and increase the lead to 6-2, Hoorelbeke came back out to complete the game and finish off the Stars.

Hanrahan improved to 7-2 in the win while Matt Smith fell to 0-3 in the loss for Huntsville. Hoorelbeke saved his sixth game of the season.

The Suns will try to finish the 10-game homestand with a 10-0 record in Sunday's series finale against Huntsville beginning at 3:05 p.m. ET. The first 1,500 kids will receive a replica Suns jersey, compliments of Shands Jacksonville, WJXT TV-4, and Lite 96.1 FM. After the game, kids run the bases sponsored by Solantic.
