Carolina Mudcats News Release
Zebulon, NC --- Lee Mitchell homered twice and drove in four runs to lead Carolina past Montgomery 9-7 at Five County Stadium before 5,276 fans on Saturday night.
Mitchell, who clubbed his second two-homer game of the season, took Biscuits starter Chris Flinn (L, 1-6) out with a man on in the first, then drove an opposite-field homer against Brian Henderson in the eighth. Mitchell doubled home a run in the fifth inning as the Mudcats (30-34) built an 8-1 lead through six innings.
Jose Garcia (W, 1-0) earned the win in his Double-A debut, allowing just one unearned run in six innings. Garcia left the Florida State League tied for the lead in victories with six.
Edgar Gonzalez had three of Carolina's 13 hits against three Biscuit pitchers.
Carolina carried a 9-3 lead to the ninth only to see the Biscuits (32-31) score four times against reliever Christopher Young before Matt Yourkin (S, 2) entered for the save, stranding the tying runs on base.
The Mudcats improved to 4-5 on their homestand, which ends Sunday at 2:00 PM ET with Adam Bostick starting.
