
Lookouts Shutdown Braves Offense

The Lookouts took the early lead with a run in the second inning. Noochie Varner doubled and moved to third on a single by Miguel Perez. He scored on a sacrifice fly by Anderson Machado. Varner was actually thrown out by several steps by Gregor Blanco, but Braves' catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchi misplayed the throw allowing the run to score.
Mississippi tied the score in the third when pitcher Chris Waters led off with a single. He moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from Gregor Blanco and scored the game-tying run on a double by Yunel Escobar.
Chattanooga went back out in front in the fourth on a solo homer by Noochie Varner. The Lookouts extended their lead in the fifth when Eddy Valdez reached on a fielder's choice and Jovan Moran ripped a two-run homer to left making the score 4-1 Lookouts.
The Lookouts made the score 6-1 in the seventh. Javier Colina walked and scored on a double by Joey Votto. Votto moved to third on the throw to the plate and scored on a single by Varner.
Mississippi made it interesting in the ninth when the first three batters each singled. Matt Esquivel's single up the middle brought Yunel Escobar to the plate making the score 6-2. Mike Rozema's single to third brought Barbaro Canizares to the plate making the score 6-3, but the Braves couldn't get any closer.
Braves' starter Chris Waters (4.2 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 6 K, 2 HR) left the game trailing 4-1 and fell to 3-4 on the year. Glenn Tucker (0.1 IP, 1 K) got a strikeout to get the Braves out of the fifth inning, then exited the game after injuring himself while batting. Jose Ascanio (3.0 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 3 K) allowed two runs through three innings pitched. Zach Schreiber (1.0 IP) threw a scoreless ninth inning.
Lookouts starter Eddy Valdez (6.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 4 BB, 3 K) won his second game of the year and improved his record to 2-3 on the year. Brock Till (2.0 IP, 1 BB, 2 K) threw two scoreless innings. Carlos Guevara (1.0 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER). David Shafer (0.1 IP) got the final out of the game for his 19th save of the year.
Game four between the Braves and the Lookouts is tomorrow at Trustmark Park at 1:05 pm. The Braves send righty Paul Bush to the hill in search of his fifth win of the season while the Lookouts counter with righty Travis Chick. The Braves On Deck Circle powered by Nextel starts off the broadcast at 6:05pm (CT) on SuperSport 930.
