Suns Take Series Opener from Biscuits

Montgomery, Ala. - Jarrett Santos delivered five no-hit innings in an emergency start, and Kevin Randel belted a two-run homerun leading the Jacksonville Suns (10-6) to a 3-1 victory over the Montgomery Biscuits (6-10) in front of 7,125 Saturday night at Riverwalk Stadium.

Santos (2-0) allowed only one walk over his five inning performance, his first start of the season. The right-hander from Tulare, Calif. struck out three and dealt 64 pitches in the victory.

Montgomery starter Jeremy Hellickson (1-1) allowed the fourth inning two-run homerun from Kevin Randel and five total hits over six innings. Hellickson walked two with eight strikeouts in a losing effort.

Matt Peterson (4) saved the game for the Suns, allowing a two-out walk in the ninth inning.

The Suns opened the scoring in the fourth inning as Kevin Randel belted a two-run homerun to right-centerfield, opening a 2-0 advantage. Jacksonville added a run in the seventh inning on a Bryan Peterson single, scoring Ryan Klosterman for a 3-0 lead.

Suns pitchers Jarrett Santos and reliever Kasey Olenberger combined to no-hit Montgomery through six and one-thirds innings. Montgomery's Rhyne Hughes broke up the effort with a solo homerun, cutting the lead to 3-1.

Jacksonville reliever Jay Buente inherited runners at first and third base with no outs in the eighth inning, but induced a pop-up and double play to preserve the lead.
