Hickory Crawdads News Release
HAGERSTOWN, MD - Around two rain delays, the Hagerstown Suns picked up a 4-0 victory against the Hickory Crawdads in a rain-shortened 5.5-inning game, before 562 fans at Municipal Stadium in Hagerstown on Tuesday. The start of the game was delayed due to the threat of rain, and then pouring rain shortened the contest after the top of the sixth.
After a 34-minute delay before the game, Hickory RHP Luke Jackson (L, 5-5) and RHP Alex Meyer (W, 6-3) alternated three scoreless frames apiece, before the Suns (40-24) broke through with three runs in the bottom of the fourth. Jackson struck out the first two batters in the inning, but DH Steven Souza extended the inning with a single. He then took off for second on a pitch that was singled to right field by RF Caleb Ramsey, and Souza was able to race all the way in on the hit and run. Ramsey was joined on the bases when 1B Justin Miller was hit by a pitch, before C Cole Leonida placed an RBI single. Miller advanced to third on the Leonida base hit, and then came in on an RBI bunt single by LF Billy Burns, making it 3-0.
The Suns struck again in the bottom of the fourth against the Crawdads (34-30), adding a tally to the lead. With one down, SS Jason Martinson singled his way on, and then advanced all the way to third on a stolen base and a missed-catch error on the play. 3B Matt Skole then ripped an RBI single to right field, bringing in Martinson to extend the Suns lead to 4-0.
With the bottom of the sixth about to begin, the rain started pouring down and the umpires sent the game into the second rain delay. After a 45-minute delay, the game was called and the Suns registered the 4-0 win in a rain-shortened 5.5-inning game.
