Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (June 12, 2012) -- The Greensboro Grasshoppers ran away from the Kannapolis Intimidators, 16-5, on Tuesday evening as the first-place Grasshoppers scored 13 runs once play resumed at CMC- NorthEast Stadium. The game was suspended in the middle of the fifth inning on Monday night as a result of rain at CMC-NorthEast Stadium.
Daniel Oliver (2-1) earned the win, working three relief innings, allowing two runs on a two-run home run by Intimidators All-Star Mark Haddow (5) in the seventh inning.
Greensboro struck in the top of the first inning when Brent Keys reached base on a fielders choice, moved to second on a wild pitch and scored on a Josh Adams single to right field. Kannapolis right fielder Mark Haddow threw out Adams trying to stretch for a double to end the inning.
The Grasshoppers added two runs in the top of the third when Keys and Adams hit back-to-back doubles, and Adams scored on an Intimidators error that would have ended the inning, giving Greensboro a 3-0 edge.
Intimidators starter Myles Jaye (2-4) worked five innings, allowing three runs (one earned) on six hits with four strikeouts and a walk in a losing effort. Grasshoppers starter Jose Fernandez spun four shutout innings of 1-hit ball before rain halted his outing as he took the mound for the bottom of the fifth on Monday night.
Greensboro led the Intimidators 7-2 before scoring eight runs in the top of the eighth inning to pull away. The Grasshoppers took advantage of five walks from Intimidators pitchers in the inning. Kannapolis tacked on three runs in the bottom of the ninth.
Grasshoppers Josh Adams, James Wooster and Terence Dayleg led the way with three hits each, and Adams and Ryan Smith each drove in four runs.
The Intimidators wrap up their final home series of the first half with the series finale against the Grasshoppers Wednesday before embarking on a four-game road trip to Delmarva. The Intimidators return from the All-Star Break on Thursday, June 21, with an eight- game home stand against Delmarva and Hickory.
