Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release

Game 1: LAKEWOOD, N.J. - Ethan Stewart pitched a complete game for Lakewood, but a two-run 4th inning was all Hagerstown needed in a 2-0 win in Game 1 of Thursday's double-header.

Stewart's record drops to 0-5 on the year despite his ERA improving to a team-leading 3.28 mark. He allowed two runs on four hits and two walks in seven innings. Three straight hits to begin the 4th inning resulted in runs by Jason Martinson and Matt Skole.

The BlueClaws recorded just three hits in the ballgame, but threatened off starting pitcher Taylor Hill in the 7th inning with a pair of one-out walks. Aaron Altherr and Harold Martinez stood at first and second base when Aaron Barrett entered the game looking for his 4th save of the season for Hagerstown. Barrett would retire the only two batters he would face to close the ballgame for a Suns victory.

Game 2: LAKEWOOD, N.J. - Brian Pointer connected on his 6th homerun of the season to lead-off the bottom of the 7th inning to force extra innings, but Hagerstown scored once in the top of the 8th inning to win Game 2, 4-3.

The BlueClaws jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with two runs in the first inning, but a three-run 6th inning off Mario Hollands gave Hagerstown a 3-2 lead. Hollands cruised through the first 5.1 innings of his outing by allowing just three hits, but four consecutive hits for Hagerstown- including a two-run triple by Jason Martinson- Hollands was given a no-decision and finished with three runs in 5.1 innings with two strikeouts. The start was just his second of the season, but it exceeded his four-inning outing on May 16th for his longest with the BlueClaws.

The BlueClaws and Suns continue their six-game series Friday with Game 3. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
