(HICKORY, N.C.) Mike Foltynewicz earned his sixth victory of the season as the Lexington Legends took the opener of a four-game series over the Hickory Crawdads 7-3 Thursday night. It was the Legends' eighth win in their last 10 games.

Foltynewicz (6-1) pitched six innings and allowed seven hits and three runs. He walked two batters and struck out seven.

The Legends scored a run in the first inning on a walk to Delino DeShields, Jr., a single by Jordan Scott, a double steal and a ground out by Zach Johnson, who leads the South Atlantic League with 49 runs batted in. The steal by DeShields was his 30th, which leads the league and matches his 2011 season total.

The Legends added a run in the third inning on a single by Matt Duffy, a stolen base and a single by Chris Epps to take a 2-0 lead. But they left eight men on base in the first four innings, opening the door for a Hickory comeback.

The Crawdads got on the board in the fourth on a single by Luis Sardinas, a sacrifice and an RBI single by Drew Robinson. Hickory took a 3-2 lead with two runs in the fifth inning, one of them scoring on a double steal.

But the Legends went back in front for good with two runs in the sixth on a double by Jimmy Howick, a triple by DeShields and a single by Scott, who had three hits in the game.

Lexington made it 5-3 in the seventh on Epps' two-out RBI single. The Legends closed out the scoring in the ninth on Duffy's single and Roberto Pena's first home run of the year.

Arlett Mavare (1-2), who relieved starter Victor Payano in the sixth inning, took the loss. The two teams meet again Friday night in Hickory. Game time is 7 p.m.
