Dalles Delivers as Shorebirds Split Doubleheader

Salisbury, Md. - The Delmarva Shorebirds (21-25) won the night cap of the doubleheader, 2-1, following a 2-0 defeat to the Greensboro Grasshoppers in game one on Thursday night. Justin Dalles launched his fourth home run of the season over the left field wall to give the Shorebirds a 2-1 lead in the sixth inning of game two. The homer was the lone run producing hit of the doubleheader for the Shorebirds.

In game one, Austin Brice earned the win over five scoreless innings. He allowed just two hits. Brice struck out seven and walked only one batter.

Greensboro scored in the first inning in game one. Ryan Goetz tripled to open the game. Then, Brent Keys dragged a bunt single to the right side to plate Goetz.

The Grasshoppers added a run in the seventh on a single to left field by Goetz.

Although he was saddled with the loss, Zach Davies was outstanding over 5.2 innings in his second start. He yielded just three hits and one run. Davies fanned a career high seven batters and walked just two.

In game two, the Shorebirds fell behind early on a two-out RBI single by Aaron Senne in the first inning.

Matt Taylor shutdown the Grasshoppers after the first inning. In six total innings, he allowed five hits and one run. Taylor retired the final 11 batters faced.

In the sixth inning, Nicky Delmonico reached on a two-out walk. Then, Dalles hit a two-run homer over the left field to put the 'Birds on top, 2-1.

Jake Cowan entered in the seventh and picked up his fifth save. Despite two walks, Cowan maneuvered out of a jam by striking out the final two hitters of the game.
