Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release

Huntsville, Ala. - Brad Davis drove in a pair of runs with a fifth inning double while four pitchers combined for a shutout leading the Jacksonville Suns (29-32) to a 2-0=2 0victory over the Huntsville Stars (35-24) in front of 1,874 Thursday night at Joe Davis Stadium.

Suns starter Nic Ungs (2-0) picked up the victory, scattering five hits over six scoreless innings. Stars starter David Welch (4-4) was tagged with the loss, giving up two runs and seven hits over six and one-thirds innings. Matt Peterson (12) saved the game, allowing a walk and a hit in the ninth before sealing the win.

Jacksonville scored the only runs of the game against Welch in the fifth inning. Scott Cousins led off the inning with a bunt single. After a one out walk from Lee Mitchell, Brad Davis doubled over Huntsville left fielder Vinny Rottino to drive in both runners for a 2-0 lead.

Huntsville's best scoring opportunity came during the seventh inning against Suns reliever Carlos Vasquez. A walk and single started the inning, before a bouncing ball to the mound moved the runners to second and third with one out. Vasquez left the game after a strikeout of Johnny Raburn to make way for Kasey Olenberger who would induce an inning-ending fly ball.

Suns first baseman Logan Morrison recorded a double and a walk in his return from a fractured thumb suffered during opening weekend.

Jacksonville RH Willie Glen will face Huntsville RH Donovan Hand in game two of the series at Joe Davis Stadium Friday at 8:00 p.m. ET. Live radio coverage is available on WFXJ-AM 930 and online at jaxsuns.com.
