Montgomery Biscuits News Release
MONTGOMERY, AL - The Biscuits were knocked out of first half playoff contention with a 4-0 loss to the Chattanooga Lookouts in game one of a five-game series on Thursday night at Riverwalk Stadium.
The Lookouts struck first off of Biscuits' starter Chris Mason in the top of the first, taking a 1-0 lead with a lone run. Justin Sellers doubled with one out off the wall in right field. JD Closser brought him home with the game's first run with an RBI single to right field.
Eddy Perez led off the second inning with a solo-home run to right-center field off of Mason, increasing Chattanooga's lead to 2-0.
Chattanooga doubled their advantage with a pair of runs in the fourth inning. With one out, Victor Mercedes tripled to the right field-corner and scored when Tommy Giles singled behind him. Giles came in to run the Lookouts' lead to 4-0 when Sellers doubled just inside the third base-bag. Mason (2-3) conceded the two runs and departed following the inning. He took the loss in his first start of the season, allowing four earned runs on eight hits.
Meanwhile, Lookouts starter Travis Chick (4-2) was in control for six innings. The right-hander worked six scoreless innings, allowing the Biscuits just four hits while striking out four to earn his fourth win of the season.
Three relievers combined on three hitless innings of relief to nail down the victory. Tim Corcoran worked a scoreless seventh, Kendy Batista took the eighth and Victor Garate finished off the win with a perfect ninth.
Game two of the series is scheduled at 7:05 PM on Friday night at Riverwalk Stadium. LHP Brandon Mann (4-3, 4.34) will start for Montgomery against LHP James Adkins (2-5, 5.31) for Chattanooga.
