Hagerstown Suns News Release
HAGERSTOWN, MD - The Hagerstown Suns (11-6, 55-32) continued to keep the bats of the Kannapolis Intimidators (11-6, 40-44) at bay on Saturday night, coming away with a 3-1 win in front of 1,849 at Municipal Stadium. Hagerstown is now 5-1 against Kannapolis at Municipal Stadium this season.
The lone inning of offense for Hagerstown came in the second. Catcher Spencer Kieboom led off the frame with a solo blast over the center field wall into the visitors bullpen for his fourth homerun of the season. Designated hitter Drew Ward and 1B Jimmy Yezzo followed with back-to-back singles, putting runners at first and second with no outs. Second baseman Willie Medina then hit a ground ball to starting RHP James Dykstra (6-7), who threw high on a force attempt at third, which allowed Ward to score and Yezzo and Medina to each move into scoring position. Yezzo scored the final run of the inning on a groundout to short by CF Narciso Mesa.
It remained a 3-0 Suns lead until the eighth, when a passed ball with two outs allowed 1B Danny Hayes to trot home from third. Kannapolis would go on to load the bases in the inning, but catcher Brett Austin struck out swinging with the bases juiced to put an end to the attempted rally.
It was starting LHP Hector Silvestre (4-6) who kept the Intimidators scoreless for six innings to earn the win. He allowed just one hit while walking four and striking out five. RHP Wander Suero pitched the final three innings for Hagerstown to record his second save of the season. Dykstra suffered the loss for Kannapolis. He wound up pitching seven innings, giving up three runs (one earned) on eight hits and one walk while striking out four.
These two teams conclude their three-game series at Municipal Stadium on Sunday July 6. The Suns will send RHP Nick Pivetta (10-4) to the mound for his 15th start and 16th appearance of the year. He will square off against LHP Jordan Guerrero (5-0) for the Intimidators. First pitch is scheduled for 5:05pm.
