Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release

Jacksonville, Fla. - Jacksonville Suns starter Joel Hanrahan allowed only one hit through his six innings while the offense scored four runs on eight hits as the first place Suns defeated the last place Mobile BayBears 4-1 Monday at the Baseball Grounds.

With the win, the Suns magic number to clinch the first half South Division title is now 4. With a Montgomery loss in Chattanooga Monday night, the magic number could be 3 entering Tuesday. Jacksonville has now won 14 of their last 15 games.

Suns starter Joel Hanrahan continued his strong 2006 campaign with a six inning outing in which he allowed only one hit while walking a season-high five batters and striking out eight.

Hanrahan's offense gave him early support off of Mobile starter John Hudgins, who entered the contest with a 3-0 record in four outings, including a win over the Jacksonville Suns in Mobile. With two outs in the second inning, the Suns began scoring on the right-hander as A.J. Ellis knocked home Justin Ruggiano with a single to open up a 1-0 lead. Later in the inning Chin-Lung Hu poked a ball into right-centerfield to drive home Ellis and extend the lead to 2-0.

The Suns pitching became offensive in the home half of the fourth inning as Hanrahan belted a triple over the head of the centerfielder with one out. With Hanrahan charging home on the next pitch, Chin-Lung Hu laid down a bunt on a pitch high and outside to plate another run on a squeeze play to make it a 3-0 Suns lead.

Jacksonville took advantage of Mobile mistakes in the seventh inning as Chin-Lung Hu singled to start the inning and when his steal of second base drew a throw into centerfield, Hu scampered to third base. When Tydus Meadows bounced a ball that the third baseman misplayed, Hu scored to give the Suns a 4-0 advantage.

The BayBears scored their lone run in the ninth inning off of Suns reliever Ben Kozlowski with a sacrifice fly to end the scoring at 4-1.

Joel Hanrahan improved to 6-2 with the win, with wins in his last four decisions and in three outings in a row. John Hudgins fell to 3-1 in his fifth outing with Mobile. Kozlowski saved his first game with the Suns in his second outing since being traded from the Reds to the Dodgers.

Jacksonville and Mobile meet for the final game of the series Tuesday night at 7:05 ET. Tuesday is Fifty-Cent Family Feast night with fifty-cent hot dogs, peanuts and ice cream treats. Tickets are available by calling the Suns box office at 904.358.2846.
