
Smokies hand Jaxx a 5-2 setback

Jackson, TN (June 5th)- Tennessee right-hander Ross Ohlendorf pitched 8 1/3 innings of solid ball tonight as the Tennessee Smokies handed the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx a 5-2 setback on a Monday night at Pringles Park.
Ohlendorf (4-3) entered the ninth inning with a six hit shutout but allowed two runs in the ninth before being relieved by lefty Doug Slaten, who got the final two outs in a non-save situation. Ohlendorf allowed two runs on eight hits with no walks and three strikeouts in his 8.1 innings of work.
Chris Shaver (2-4) was the tough luck loser for the Diamond Jaxx. Shaver allowed three unearned runs on six hits with three walks and six strikeouts in his six innings of work.
Tennessee scored the three runs in the fifth inning. Agustin Murillo led off the inning by reaching on a throwing error by Diamond Jaxx 3B Scott Moore. Jesus Cota drove in Murillo with a run scoring double to make it 1-0. Alberto Gonzalez singled to put runners at first and third. After a one out walk to load the bases, Shaver got the second out but gave up a two run single to Miguel Montero to make it 3-0. The Smokies made it 5-0 in the eighth inning on a two run homer by Jerry Gil. The two runs were the first earned runs allowed by the Diamond Jaxx pitching staff in the last thirty-one innings.
The Diamond Jaxx scored two runs in the ninth on a RBI double by Nic Jackson and a run scoring groundout by Brian Dopirak. They had two on with two out but Slaten struckout pinch-hitter Brandon Sing to end the game.
The rubber game of the five game series takes place on Tuesday night at 7:05 CDT. Right-hander Randy Wells (2-2 1.31) gets the start for the Diamond Jaxx. Tennessee will counter with lefty Matt Chico (1-0 2.25).
