Hagerstown Suns News Release
The Hagerstown Suns are still unable to capture any of their first half magic after a loss to the Lakewood Blueclaws 6-2 Sunday night.
In front of 4,744 fans, the largest crowd to watch a game in Municipal Stadium this year, the Suns took a lead into the eighth inning but were unable to hold it, losing their 3rd straight game to the Blueclaws and falling to 3-7 in the second half.
Gabriel Hernandez put forth his usual dominating effort (5 innings, 1 run, 8 strikeouts), but the bullpen couldn't help him earn his seventh win. Carlos Muniz suffered his fourth loss of the season, giving up 5 runs and 7 hits in just 2 innings.
The Blueclaws took the lead in the eigth inning when five of the first six batters reached on basehits(three of them doubles)to score three runs. The visiting team would add two more runs in the ninth to pull away from Hagerstown, including a leadoff homerun by Greg Golson. Third-baseman Russ Triplett had the only multi-hit game for the Suns with back-to-back doubles in his first two at-bats.
Hagerstown will spend their Independence Day on the road against the Delmarva Shorebirds and will return home on Thursday, July 7th to take on the West Virginia Power on a Thirsty Thursday.
